Managing Anxiety & Stress
In today’s fast-paced world, stress and anxiety have become almost universal experiences. Whether triggered by work pressures, family responsibilities, or personal struggles, these feelings can become overwhelming if not addressed or supported. At Counselling and Therapy NZ, we support individuals in understanding, managing, and overcoming anxiety and stress with compassionate, and evidence-based care.
Anxiety and stress are natural bodily responses to perceived threats. While short-term stress can be helpful by motivating action, chronic (long-term) stress and anxiety may lead to physical, emotional, and psychological strain. Symptoms may include difficulty sleeping, constant worry, irritability, racing thoughts, muscle tension, and trouble concentrating.
Self-Help Strategies:
Mindfulness and Breathing Techniques: Simple practices such as mindful breathing can ground you in the present moment and calm the nervous system.
Routine and Sleep Hygiene: Consistent daily routines and healthy sleep practices can regulate stress hormones, therefore reducing anxiety and stress.
Physical Activity: Regular movement or exercise releases endorphins and reduces cortisol (which is your stress hormone).
Limiting Stimulants: Reducing caffeine, sugar, and alcohol can decrease the intensity of anxiety symptoms.
If your anxiety or stress starts interfering with your work, relationships, or enjoyment of life, it may be time to talk to a professional. At Counselling & Therapy NZ, we offer a safe, non-judgemental space to explore triggers and build long-term coping strategies.
How Counselling Helps:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): Helps reframe negative thought patterns and reduce anxious thinking.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): Encourages acceptance of feelings and commitment to valued actions.
Stress Management Skills: Learn practical tools for handling pressure and setting boundaries.
Anxiety and stress are not signs of weakness—they’re signs that your body and mind are trying to cope. Reach out to Counselling and Therapy NZ today to explore support tailored to your needs.
